Couples Therapy
For partners who still care about each other but keep getting stuck.
You love each other, but lately you feel more like roommates than partners. Maybe you keep having the same argument, or you’ve stopped fighting at all. Or maybe you're both successful and capable in every other part of your lives, and your relationship is the one place that feels hard. Maybe there’s a mixture of all three, or maybe it’s something else.
You don't have to be in crisis to deserve support. Some of the couples I work with are at a breaking point. Many more simply want to feel close again, learn to fight fair, and understand each other better. Couples therapy is a place to do that together, with someone who's in your corner as a couple and doesn't take sides. Here, we can refocus on the foundation of you together, as a team.

I work with couples of all identities and relationship structures, including:
LGBTQIA+ couples. As a member of the queer community myself, I understand that queer relationships come with their own strengths and their own pressures. You won't have to explain or defend who you are here.
Busy, high-achieving couples whose careers, kids, and commitments have crowded out their connection.
Couples who like each other but feel stuck in the same patterns, the same fights, or the same distance.
Neurodivergent and mixed-neurotype couples. As a neurodivergent therapist, I know how differences in communication, sensory needs, and executive functioning can show up in a relationship, and how to work with them rather than against them.
Consensually non-monogamous and polyamorous relationships. I'm ENM/poly-informed and affirming.

My approach is grounded in two of the most researched models of couples therapy:
The Gottman Method offers practical, research-based tools for communicating, managing conflict, and rebuilding friendship and trust.
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) helps you understand the cycle you get caught in. It's usually not the dishes or the calendar; it's the fear, loneliness, or hurt underneath. When you can see the cycle, you can step out of it together.
Sessions are collaborative, honest, and sometimes even fun. My job isn't to decide who's right or who’s wrong - it's to facilitate, to help you both feel heard, to develop a shared language of understanding, and to build a relationship that works for the two of you.

First, a free 15-minute consultation: A quick video call to see whether we're a good fit.
Initial joint assessment (90 minutes). We'll talk about your history as a couple, what's bringing you in, and what you'd like to be different.
Initial individual assessment (60 minutes each): I’ll meet with you each individually to learn more about your individual backgrounds, personal histories, and individual perspectives on your relationship.
Ongoing sessions (60-90 minutes): We will typically start with weekly sessions and space them out as things improve. Longer sessions give us time to go deeper, and many couples find them more productive.
All sessions are held by secure video for couples located in Maryland and Virginia.

Premarital counseling. A focused series of sessions to help you build a strong foundation before marriage or commitment. We'll explore communication, conflict, finances, family, intimacy, and your shared vision for the future. It's inclusive of all couples and not faith-based.
Discernment counseling. For couples where one partner is leaning out of the relationship and the other wants to keep working on it. In 1-5 sessions, discernment counseling helps you get clarity and confidence about your next step, whether that's rebuilding, separating, or taking more time to decide.

Couples therapy is self-pay. Because I'm not working from an insurance-required diagnosis, our work stays focused on your relationship, and your records stay private.
